The baby died, and the mother has been taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The incident happened on Monday late afternoon.

The department store (located at the corner of Dam Square and Damrak) was vacated yesterday. This morning the store opened at the normal opening hour.

A spokeswoman said that the fences on the top floor complies with all security rules, but that they will review the situation in the Amsterdam branch of the Bijenkorf.

This is the second suicide attempt at the Bijenkorf in this year. In June a man was found dead outside the Bijenkorf, after jumped off the building.
