New museum in Amsterdam about Amsterdam's canals

published: Thursday, April 07 2011, 12:57PM

Although the canals of Amsterdam are possibly the most important attraction of Amsterdam, there was not yet a museum about the canals.

This is going to change on April 15, when the Grachtenhuis opens to the public.

The Grachtenhuis is located in one of the best preserved canal houses designed by Philips Vingboons, who was one of the leading architects in the 17th century. The Grachtenhuis wants to introduce visitors to one of the best city development projects in the world: the 17th-century canals of Amsterdam.
The 17th century ring of canals is an official UNESCO World Heritage site.

The museum has a beautiful large garden at the back, and well-preserved style rooms.

The rooms on the first floor are dedicated to the ring of canals.

As only a limited number of visitors can be allowed at a time, the museum recommends to buy tickets through its website.
