Dutch herring is one of the Dutch food specialties. The fish is eaten salted - and raw, the chopped onions are optional (see Wikipedia for some more info).
The 'Hollandse Nieuwe' is considered a delicacy by many, and supposedly very healthy, because of the fish oil. The quality of this year's herring is called 'very good' by experts.

The herring is sold in food stalls in the street, but also in fish shops.
