The closure is one in a series of recent closures of brothels in Amsterdam (see also One third of Amsterdam Red Light District closed down).

Yab Yum is one of the most famous (if not the most famous) and exclusive sex clubs in the Netherlands. It is located in a canal house along the Singel canal, just outside the Red Light District.

The closure is based on the Bibob law, under which a business licence can be revoked if there is a 'serious risk of abuse' (criminal activity). The same law has been used to close down other brothels in Amsterdam.
