Clubs in Amsterdam close one hour earlier because of Daylight Saving Time

published: Wednesday, March 23 2011, 4:04PM

The city of Amsterdam does not allow clubs and bars to be open one hour longer this weekend.

In the night from Saturday March 26 to Sunday March 27, at 3 AM, the clock in the Netherlands will be put back one hour.

Clubs in Amsterdam have asked that they can ignore this. Their visitors will experience one hour less opening time, and it is up to the club owners to explain.

The nearby beach resort Zandvoort will allow clubs to be open 'longer' for one hour, and the city of Haarlem is considering it.

Club owners complain that the lack of flexibility does not fit a world city like Amsterdam.
