Artzuid Sculpture Route opened in Amsterdam South

published: Thursday, May 26 2011, 5:19PM

Today was the official opening of the Artzuid Sculpture Route, in Amsterdam South, in the presence of HRH Queen Beatrix.

The route was set up to draw greater attention to the urban expansion plan of architect H.P. Berlage, known as the Plan-Zuid, which is now over a hundred years old, by organising a high-quality sculpture exhibition.

The route consists of more than 50 large sculptures, that are placed along Apollolaan and other stately lanes in Amsterdam South.

The sculpture route is a free event. The route is five minutes walk from the Museumplein. A map is available from the information desk in front of the Hilton Hotel (at Apollolaan 138). A walk along all the works takes about two and a half hours.

Artzuid will last from May 27 to August 28 2011.

More information (in English) is on http://www.artzuid.nl/index_en.php.
