Amsterdam has its own Occoupy camp

published: Monday, October 17 2011, 11:10AM

Following other cities around the world, Amsterdam has its own 'Occopy' movement since last weekend.

On Saturday, a few thousand protesters gathered at Beursplein, in the centre of Amsterdam, to protest against the effects of the financial crisis in the world, and the role bank(er)s and other financial institutions play in it.

Some of the protesters have camped outside on Beursplein (near the Amsterdam Stock Exchange) since last Saturday, and welcomed the stock traders with cynical texts and a red carpet on Monday morning.

The Occopy movement started in the United States, as the Occupy Wall Street movement in New York. It has spread to several cities worldwide, amongst which are Amsterdam and Den Haag (The Hague) in the Netherlands.
