| Art of survival, Maroon culture in Suriname | Maroons have lived in Suriname for around three hundred years. Originally snatched from African and shipped to Suriname as slave labour for the Dutch, they managed to break free and sought shelter along the rivers in the bush. Some people say that they are the best preserved piece of African culture outside the African continent. But their culture has been constantly changing – right up to the present day.
The aesthetic quality and sheer quantity of the objects in the exhibitions will demonstrate the strength, splendour and the dynamics in Maroon culture. The many visual exhibits illustrate the non-material culture and the current developments. | Location (more info): Tropenmuseum / Tropical Museum Linnauesstraat 2

| Rembrandt Reflected. A Glimpse into the Master's Mind | Art lovers regard Rembrandt’s etchings as highlights of his oeuvre. They admire his spontaneous drawing style, his dramatic light effects and his bold experiments with the technique. Despite their small size, Rembrandt’s etchings are often just as ambitious in design as his paintings.
For the first time ever, Rembrandt’s most important etchings are being exhibited in the Rembrandt House alongside their mirror images. This is a unique opportunity to see these masterpieces exactly as Rembrandt conceived them. Rembrandt expert Ernst van de Wetering explains the surprising new insights into Rembrandt’s approach to his work that this exhibition provides. | Location (more info): Rembrandthuis Jodenbreestraat 4
