Warhol's painting of Queen Beatrix to Rijksmuseum Amsterdam

The pink portrait of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, by the famous painter Andy Warhol will be on display in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

The Triton Foundation bought the painting for EUR 409,000 at an auction at Christies Amsterdam. The foundation will give the painting to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam on long-term loan. It is unknown when the painting will be on display in the museum.

Warhol made the painting of Beatrix in 1985. The painting is one of a series of 4 paintings: Warhol painted all 4 reigning queens at the time (the other three are Queen Elizabeth of England, Queen Margarethe II of Denmark and Queen Ntombi laTfwala of Swaziland).
The series sold very well as lithos.

Warhol praised Queen Beatrix as 'the best looking of the bunch'.
