Two meter Victoria Cruziana to flower in Amsterdam botanical garden

In the Amsterdam Hortus Botanicus a flowering Victoria Cruziana can be seen, probably on August 10 or 11.

The leaves of Victoria can reach a diameter of 2 meters. These water lilies flower at night. Each flower blooms for just two consecutive nights: white the first night, pink the second. After the second night, the flower closes and disappears under the water surface where the seeds ripen.

The Hortus will be open until 11 pm on the day that the Victoria blooms (either August 10 or 11).

More information on the flower is on the Hortus page about Victoria. More information on when the flower will bloom, will probably appear on the Hortus website too, or on this website.
