Storm in Amsterdam: 21-year old tourist killed by falling tree

A storm that hit Amsterdam on Monday morning has already caused one death, and left several people wounded.

A tree along the Herengracht canal fell on a 21-year old woman (a tourist). Her life could not be saved.

Many trees in Amsterdam have fallen, some of them damaging houses, houseboats or cars.

- Train traffic has come to a full stop around Amsterdam, because of storm damage.
The Vondelpark in Amsterdam has been closed, to protect visitors agains falling trees.
- Trams in Amsterdam are experiencing delays because of fallen trees and other debris on the tram lines.

The Amsterdam authorities advise everyone to stay inside. The storm is expected to calm down in the course of the afternoon.
