Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam opened by Queen Beatrix

Today was the opening of the renovated Stedelijk Museum, performed by HRH Queen Beatrix.

The Stedelijk Museum is Amsterdam's main modern art museum. Together with the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum it forms the 'big three' at Museumplein square.

The renovation was much criticized as it took almost 10 years, and cost a lot more money than planned.

With the renovation, Museumplein has a new look - the Stedelijk has been expanded with a new, brightly white wing, which is colloquially called 'the bathtub', because that is what it looks like.

Starting September 23, the Stedelijk will be open for the public.
