Police raids High Times Cannabis Cup exhibition in Amsterdam

A police force of about 150-200 have raided a Cannabis Cup exhibition, yesterday, in the Borchland Sports Hall in Amsterdam South-East.

They confiscated half a container of cannabis, and one man was arrested for possessing 700 grams of weed.
Police entered the expo to ensure that all vendors were in compliance with tax laws and a 500 gram limit for cannabis that is enforced in the Netherlands, for coffeeshop owners.

The Cannabis Cup organization says the events for today at the Borchland complex, and at the Melkweg will continue as announced.

The Cannabis Cup is an event organized every year in November, in Amsterdam, by the marihuana magazine 'High Times'. The event allows judges from around the world to sample and vote for their favorite marijuana strains. These judges-at-large decide the Cannabis Cup (overall winner in the cannabis strain competition), best new product, best booth, best glass, best hash and best Nederhash.

This year's Cup is the 24th in a row.

The Dutch association for Abolition of the Cannabis Prohibition says the raid is symptomatic for a climate of diminishing tolerance by the authorities of marihuana use in the Netherlands.

More information about the Cannabis Cup is on the High Times website.
