Miffy ('Nijntje') celebrates 50th anniversary in Madurodam

From 24 February until 31 May 2005 Madurodam is celebrating the fiftieth birthday of miffy, writer and illustrator Dick Bruna's most famous creation.

For half a century now, Miffy, in Holland known as Nijntje, has been a well-known children's character all over the world, in Europe and even in places like Japan.
Since the fifties, Bruna achieved international sales of almost 85 million copies of stories involving Miffy or other children's characters. His small books have been translated into more than forty languages.

Miffy is (for example) the main character in a campaign to promote New York City as a family destination, as New York City's Family Tourism Ambassador. This campaign was launched after the 9/11 attacks.

Madurodam is the well-known miniature city, with many famous Dutch buildings reproduced on a scale of 1:25. Located in Den Haag (The Hague), it is one of the busiest attractions outside Amsterdam.
If you venture outside Amsterdam, this 'city' is well worth a visit.
