Go-ahead for tallest tower for apartments in Amsterdam

Amsterdam has signed the last contracts to start the building of a new skyscraper, which will be the tallest tower in Amsterdam.

The tower will be built at the end of the Arena Boulevard, next to the Amsterdam Arena Stadium in Amsterdam South-East. It will have 47 floors.

The tower will contain almost 400 apartments, a gym, a restaurant and shops.

The Arena Boulevard is rapidly developing into the second city heart of Amsterdam. Just this week, the development of the GETZ entertainment centre and the Music Dome, also along the Arena Boulevard, were announced.
The Arena Boulevard already has the Pathé Cinema (Amsterdams largest cinema), the Heineken Music Hall (a large concert hall) and the Amsterdam Arena (home of Ajax, the Amsterdam soccer team, but also used for large concerts).
The Arena Boulevard is also (already) a large shopping centre. Along the boulevard are the Mediamarkt (large electronics store) and Villa Arena (a large furniture shopping centre).
The boulevard is located next to the Bijlmer train/metro station, which is currently being enlarged to deal with the massive increase in train traffic. On the other side of the station the Amsterdamse Poort, an area with hundreds of shops.

Here is a picture impression of the area.
