Fences and barricades removed around American consulate in Amsterdam

The fences and road blocks that are now placed around the American Consulate will be removed.

This has been decided by Amsterdam Oud-Zuid, which governs the part of Amsterdam in which the consulate is located. The American consulate is located at the Museumplein square, at the back of the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum.

A new security post will be installed, where visitors can be checked with metal detectors and X rays. The fences and barricades were placed some years ago, when the US were building up their troops in Iraq. The fences and concrete barricades are generally regarded as unesthetic.
