Dutch politician Hirsi Ali on Time Magazine list of 100 most influential people

The Dutch politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali has been placed on the list of 100 'most influential people' by Time Magazine.

The list ('TIME's list of the men and women whose power, talent or moral example is transforming the world') is published yearly.

Hirsi Ali is a member of Parliament for the Dutch liberal party (VVD). She has become famous for speaking out against oppression of women in the Muslim world. She is a naturalised refugee from Somalia.

She worked together with Theo van Gogh (the Dutch film maker who got killed in November last year in Amsterdam by a Muslim radical) on the film Submission. This film has caused a lot of publicity and controversy, worldwide.
Ever since the film was released, Hirsi Ali has received death threats and has been forced to go into hiding under a special government protection programme.
