Dutch ambassador leaves Estonia due to racism and homophobia

The Dutch ambassador to Estionia, Mr Hans Glaubitz, has decided to leave Estonia.

The reason given is that his husband (Mr Glaubitz is married to Raúl Garcia Laoa, a black man from Cuba) has experienced hatred against gays and racism in the baltic republic of Estonia.

The harassment began soon after Mr Glaubitz occupied his post, when an Estonian magazine wrote that the appointment of a gay ambassador with a black husband had to be seen as a Dutch provocation.

Mr Glaubitz has said that the Estonian government is not to blame, as he and his partner have always been treated correctly.
He is now going to work at the Dutch Consulate General in Montréal, Canada.
