Diamond skull Hirst in Rijksmuseum Amsterdam

The famous Hirst skull, a human skull covered with 8,601 diamonds, will be on display in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

The work of art, created by the Brit Damien Hirst, will be displayed from November 1 to December 15. The name of the work of art is 'For the Love of God'.

The skull (of an 18th century European man) is covered in platina, and beset with 8,601 diamonds. It has been sold for EUR 75 million, and is the most expensive work of art made by a living artist.

Displaying the skull is subject to very strict conditions. It must be displayed in a darkened room, that has no other objects. The contract is very specific about all measurements and other details, and also stipulates that the owner's can not be mentioned.
