Cruise ship rams restaurant along IJ in Amsterdam

The cruise ship 'River Duchess' rammed the restaurant Wilhelminadok today, located along the IJ water just behind Central Station.

The ship was sailing out when it was discovered that the steering mechanism failed. It could only go straight on and rammed the Italian restaurant Wilhelminadok.

The accident happened Sunday afternoon. Two passengers on the ship and one guest of the restaurant terrace were injured.

The restaurant and the bow of the ship are severely damaged.

The River Duchess had mostly Americans on board who were on a cruise to visit the Netherlands and Belgium.
