Amsterdam theater Melkweg cancels show due to anti-gay lyrics

The famous pop theater De Melkweg (near Leidseplein) announced it has cancelled a performance (March 16, 2014) by the Jamaican reggae musician Sizzla.

By cancelling the show, De Melkweg adopts another policy than in 2012, when protest by gay organizations against the same performer did not lead to a cancellation.

Now the Melkweg says it does not want to provide a stage for 'hurtful and hatemongering' texts. It offers all people who already bought a ticket a full refund.

Sizzla sings he thinks that man and women should not have sex with persons of the same sex, and he says he bases himself on the Bible.
He has been quoted to sing 'Burn out the lesbian, burn out the gays with the lyrics. I don’t care who want vex, rastaman no support no same sex.'
