'Amsterdam' not in parade of tall ships Sail Amsterdam 2005

The ship 'Amsterdam', will not take part in the 'grand parade' of tall ships that will sail to Amsterdam at the beginning of Sail Amsterdam 2005.

The 'Amsterdam' is a replica of the 17th century tall ship 'Amsterdam', that sank on its maiden voyage. The ship is moored next to the Maritime Museum (Scheepvaartmuseum), one of the more popular tourist attractions in Amsterdam.

The parade of ships is the grand opening event of Sail 2005 - all tall ships that participate will enter the Amsterdam harbour together, accompanied by many other ships.

As the 'Amsterdam' can not sail by itself, it will have to be towed to the harbour of IJmuiden, and back during the parade. Neither the Sail Foundation nor the Maritime Museum have the funds for this.

Sail 2005 is an event held every 5 years in Amsterdam, taking place from August 17 to 22 this year.
