Amsterdam health department warns against fake cocaine

The Amsterdam GGD (the health department) has issued a warning against buying cocaine from street dealers.

About 10 tourists became sick after buying cocaine from street dealers. The GGD has found that some 'cocaine' is really white heroin. If you think you take cocaine, but it is really heroin, there is an increased risk of an overdose.

The GGD has been spreading flyers with the cocaine alert on major squares (such as Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein) in Amsterdam, where many tourists are found. The flyers have also been sent to hostels and clubs in Amsterdam.

On the flyer the GGD urges people to dial 112 if you find persons in trouble after using drugs. The flyer (which is in English) explicitly states that drug users are not arrested by the police.
