Amsterdam canal area on Unesco World Heritage list

The famous 17th century canal area in the centre of Amsterdam will be added to the Unesco World Heritage list in July.

It means that the World Heritage Committee considers the Amsterdam canal area as having 'outstanding universal value'. The city has one of the best preserved 17th century city centres in the world.

The city of Amsterdam had submitted the centre of Amsterdam for the list, but it has taken the Committee more than 2 years to reach the decision.

It will be the 9th item for the Netherlands on the World Heritage list.
