Amsterdam Opera House goes commercial

The Muziektheather, Amsterdam's main opera theatre, will be rented by Joop van den Ende's theatre company to stage 'Sleeping Beauty on Ice' this summer.

Because of subsidy cuts, the ballet performance that was originally planned for July had to be cancelled.

Joop van den Ende typically produces large, popular shows, like musicals and Holiday on Ice. He is successful in the Netherlands, but also abroad, for example in London and New York.

The Muziektheater has agreed to stage the show, as it is of a quality that fits the reputation of the Muziektheater. Musicals will not be staged by the Muziektheater.
