60 Years Auschwitz commemmorated in Amsterdam

A few thousand people gathered today in the Wertheim Park in Amsterdam, to commemorate the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz.

The liberation happened 60 years ago, by the Russian army. Like every year, the commemoration took place in the Wertheim Park, at the 'Mirror monument' created by Jan Wolkers.

Mayor Job Cohen held a speech to commemorate the 'millions that were killed because of their backgrounds'.

It is estimated that 1.5 million people were killed in Auschwitz.
